A musical platform where artists help artists. Every episode kicks off with a one-of-a-kind, fully live collaborative performance between host R.J. Cui and that episode's guest — then the mics come down and the real conversation starts.
Most music shows sit an artist down and ask questions. Behind The Sound opens every single episode with host and artist/producer R.J. Cui writing and performing a brand new collaborative track live, together, on camera — before a single question is asked. It's unscripted, it's real, and it's never been done quite like this anywhere else.
Behind The Sound has hosted local up-and-coming artists right alongside Canadian and international hip-hop royalty — legends like Maestro Fresh Wes (the Godfather of Canadian hip hop), Juno-winning singer-songwriter Celeigh Cardinal, Toronto rap icon Choclair, and Chip-Fu of the legendary Fu-Schnickens.
Every guest gets the same treatment: a live performance first, a real conversation second, and a studio built to make both look and sound incredible.
A couple of favourites to start with — then head to the full playlist for every episode.
